So many opportunities abound for catching your sustenance on the Eastern
Shore that it may be tough to decide between a rod, a rake or strung-up
chicken neck. DLITE recommends trying all three in the rivers, lakes and
bays around the shore. For clamming, saltwater is a must and any shallow,
sandy bays will produce, especially in the coastal bays behind Fenwick
Island, Ocean City and Assateague on the eastern half of the bay. For
crabbing, Eastern Bay, Slaughter Beach and the near bays areas of the
Chester, Choptank, Kiptopeke, Occahonack Creek, and Wye Rivers are a few hot
spots.
The angling staples of the shore are rockfish, flounder, and
seatrout, and largemouth bass can be caught year-round. Fishing out of
Chestertown, Cambridge, Chrisfield, Kent Island, Chincoteague, Wachapreague,
Cape Charles, Onancock, or Slaughter Beach can produce great saltwater
adventures. The Nanticoke, Pocomoke, Choptank, and Broadkill, rivers are
well-known for their largemouth fishing. Pond fishing in Delaware is popular
especially at Records Ponds, Millsboro Pond, and Killen Pond- to name a few.
