Local History Lecture Series On Tap
By Dave Wilson        February 24, 2004

Old Ocean City Oral histories, old manuscripts, and historic photos will relay the lost cultural traditions and natural conditions of Ocean City and the surrounding area during a new lecture series this spring.

"Cultural Traditions of Travel and Recreation of Ocean City and Coastal Communities of the Lower Eastern Shore" will bring together old-time hoteliers, commercial fishermen, boaters, Boardwalk business owners, and sportsfishermen to showcase the way things were.

A six-panel brochure with historic photos, letters, and transcripts from oral histories will accompany the lectures. Lecture topics include "Changing Landscapes," "A Town Rises from the Dunes," "History of the Boardwalk," "A Tradition of Hunting and Fishing," "Storms," and "Transportation Influences."

The series will run April-June. The brochure is slated for completion in April. The Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Committee is helping to sponsor the work. For updates call Carol Cain at 410-213-2297.
