DLITE's Mission

Delmarva SunsetThe peninsula joining Delaware, Maryland and Virginia boarders two of the richest, most diverse estuaries on the eastern seaboard. Protected by geological barriers, the Delmarva Peninsula has remained relatively untouched by the urbanization seen in other parts of the country. As such it has become a haven for suburbia-weary vacationers seeking to bike, hike, canoe or sail their way to introspection.

With this in mind a union of local, state, and federal agencies along with local tourism providers and natural resource managers has formed an alliance to encourage nature-based tourism and foster a sense of wonder and value for the natural world.

Delmarva Low Impact Tourism Experiences or DLITE represents this unified front which seeks families and people like you to make manifest your passion for the outdoors. DLDelmarva Wooded MarshITE members understand that the history of this land extends beyond its marketability. Revered by Algonquins, explored by Verrazano and Norwood, and settled in the mid-1600's by men and women from the British Isles, the Eastern Shore has a rich history.

A way of life in this community for over 400 years, farming and forestry continue to define the character and culture of this rustic jewel. From the grassy meadows of Bombay Hook to the meandering streams of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, more than 300 species of migratory waterfowl, songbirds, and birds of prey flock to this region for food and shelter.

Today, a symphonic blend of cypress swamp, upland, tidal marsh and coastal plain forest hang on to this peninsula's natural heritage. Our goal is to keep tomorrow as beautiful as today.
