Delmarva Nature Adventures: July-October
By Dave Wilson       July 20, 2003

BirdersFour more DLITE-sponsored Delmarva Nature Adventure package weekends remain. Envisioned by DLITE and made real by Worcester County Tourism, the ecotour trips began in May and end in October. The weekends include hiking, biking and canoeing trips, accommodations, Saturday lunch and dinner, and wildlife interpretation.

On July 25-27, the "Cycling and Seagrass" trip will bring casual cyclists through the back roads of Worcester County, down to the quaint landings of Chincoteague Bay. Guides will be a blessing in this remote bay ecosystem and will help seine for seahorses, terrapins, pipefish, and other aquatic critters.

In August, "Aquatic Adventures on Assateague" will feature a kayak trip on the back waters of Assateague Island, the 22nd-24th, for an intimate weekend in the salt and sand searching for shorebirds, aquatic animals and the world-famous Assateague ponies.

IbisThe September trip "Migration Exploration" on the weekend of the 27th, will explore the hot spots of hawk and butterfly migration using both legs and paddles. Tiger swallowtails and falcons are a must see this weekend.

"Hunting for Hawks" is the final trip Oct. 24-26. Spectacular sunsets and mild temperatures add to the bird watching. Bald eagles and hundreds of unusual migrants are the rule for this grand finale of trips.
