| Birding Weekend Sets Record By Dave Wilson June 25, 2003 This year's Delmarva Birding Weekend, put on by DLITE, April 25-7 yielded a record 153 species with 387 participants. Highlights this year included dozens of late red-throated and common loons in breeding plumage in Assawoman and Sinepuxent bays, a yellow-crowned night-heron on Skimmer Island, a gull-billed tern on the north end of Assateague Island, 17 species of warbler, a barred owl entering its nest cavity on Nassawango Creek with a five-lined skink in its mouth, and American avocets feeding in the recreated wetland at the east end of the new Route 50 bypass in Salisbury. |
